Can ativan help with pain?

My doctor prescribed Ativan for my anxiety, and it helps me calm down. I also experience chronic pain from an old injury. I'm wondering if Ativan could also help with managing my pain, or is it just for anxiety?

I get super anxious about taking heavy medicines like Ativan. From what I know, it's actually for anxiety and muscle relaxation, not a direct painkiller. Please be very careful with it and ask your doctor before taking it, as it can be habit-forming.

Ativan is a benzodiazepine, so it won't directly stop physical pain like a normal painkiller does. However, it helps calm your nervous system and relaxes muscles, which might make severe pain feel slightly more bearable. Only take it if your doctor specifically prescribed it for you.

Ativan is not meant for pain relief, it is primarily prescribed for anxiety or sleep issues. If you are dealing with chronic pain, try anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric milk or ginger, but do consult your doctor for proper pain management instead of self-medicating.

No, it's not a pain medicine. Just like managing my thyroid needs specific hormone pills and regular blood tests, pain needs the right diagnostic tests and targeted treatment. Always do a follow-up with your doctor instead of using anxiety meds for pain.

Beta, Ativan is a strong medicine meant to quieten the mind, not for bodily pain. For mild aches, a hot water bottle ferment or a gentle oil massage is much safer. Please do not take such strong English medicines without a doctor's clear slip.

I am new here and a bit nervous to ask, but my doctor prescribed Ativan for my severe muscle tension and pain. Does it actually help relax the body, or should I ask him for a different painkiller? I am a bit scared of the side effects.

I've seen this question come up quite a bit. Ativan is definitely not a painkiller; it's an anti-anxiety medication. Sometimes doctors use it to help with muscle spasms or severe tension, but please check with your doctor directly to get a proper pain relief prescription.
