Can asthma cause sleep apnea?

My husband says I sometimes stop breathing for a few seconds in my sleep, and I wake up feeling exhausted. I have asthma, and I'm wondering if there's a connection. Can asthma lead to sleep apnea, or are these two separate issues?

Look, they both affect your breathing, so if you have bad asthma, your chances of dealing with sleep apnea also go up. Don't just suffer through tired mornings; get a proper sleep study done.

Beta, sleeping on your side instead of your back and keeping the bedroom dust-free can help you breathe easier at night. But sleep apnea is a serious issue, so please get it checked by a doctor.

I noticed my sleep quality improved significantly once I started regular evening walks and managed my weight. If your doctor permits, light physical activity can help keep your airways clear and reduce sleep apnea risks.

I know how terrifying it feels to wake up gasping for air in the middle of the night, it used to give me major health anxiety. Both asthma and sleep apnea are highly manageable once you get the right doctor's advice.

My pulmonologist explained that nasal congestion and systemic airway inflammation from asthma can indeed increase the risk of obstructive sleep apnea. It is highly recommended to treat both conditions in parallel for better rest.
