Can asthma cause shortness of breath?

I've been diagnosed with asthma, and sometimes I feel breathless even when I'm just sitting or doing light work. Is this normal for asthma? Can asthma just cause general shortness of breath without a full-blown attack?

Shortness of breath is literally the main symptom I deal with every single day as an asthmatic. When the pollen count is high, my chest feels so tight that even walking across the room feels like running a marathon.

Shortness of breath is indeed the classic symptom of an asthma flare-up. Since I also manage diabetes, I ensure I don't confuse this with any diabetic complications, so a quick pulse-oximeter check is always helpful.

A simple peak flow meter cost around 300 rupees and is great for tracking your breath capacity at home. It helps you catch breathing drops early so you don't have to spend a fortune on emergency hospital visits.

Bro, shortness of breath is like the definition of asthma! Climbing just two flights of stairs in college makes me sound like a steam engine if my inhaler isn't working properly.

Shortness of breath is definitely the hallmark of asthma. I focus on steady-state cardio and breathing drills to build up my lung stamina, but I always keep my rescue pump nearby in case my chest acts up.

Yes, breathlessness is the most common symptom of airway swelling. My advice is to master purse-lipped breathing to calm your lungs during a flare-up, and never skip your daily preventative steroid inhaler.

Yes, breathing difficulty is the primary sign of asthma. I try to eat warm, light foods and avoid cold, mucus-forming items like yogurt or bananas late in the evening to keep my airways clear and comfortable.
