Can asthma cause nausea?

Lately, whenever my asthma acts up a bit, I start feeling really queasy. I never thought these two could be connected at all. Is it possible for asthma to cause nausea or is something else going on?

Oh god, yes! Whenever I have a massive coughing fit because of my dust allergy, I literally feel like throwing up. The constant gagging makes my stomach turn completely, it is the worst feeling ever.

It is actually pretty common. The intense coughing spells put physical pressure on your abdomen, which triggers a gag reflex. Also, swallowing too much air during a breathlessness phase can make your stomach feel bloated and nauseous.

Sometimes certain cheap generic asthma medicines can cause acidity and nausea as side effects. Talk to your government clinic doctor; they can easily swap it for a different formulation that doesn't upset your stomach or pocket.

If coughing makes you feel nauseous, try taking small sips of lukewarm ginger water right after an attack. It settles the throat irritation and calms the stomach. Also, avoid lying down immediately after eating.

I get so anxious when I feel nauseous during an asthma flare-up, thinking my body is shutting down. It is apparently just the coughing strain and anxiety acting up together. Stay strong and take slow deep breaths.

I was recently diagnosed with mild asthma and I keep feeling sick to my stomach after using the blue inhaler. Does this happen to others too, or should I ask my doctor to change the medicine?
