Can asthma cause lung cancer?

I've had asthma for almost 40 years, and I'm very worried about developing other serious conditions. My neighbour, who also had asthma, recently got diagnosed with lung cancer. Can long-term asthma cause lung cancer, or is that just a coincidence?

My mind loves to jump from a simple wheeze to 'oh my god it's cancer', but thank god asthma doesn't directly cause lung cancer. Just keep your lungs away from cigarette smoke and heavy pollution, which are the actual bad guys here.

If you are very worried, a simple chest X-ray at a local clinic costs around 300 to 500 rupees and can easily rule out major fears. It is much better for your mental health and wallet to get a quick test rather than sitting and stressing over big diseases.

According to most medical health portals I track, chronic lung inflammation from untreated asthma can slightly raise general lung vulnerability, but it doesn't cause cancer. Tracking your peak flow rates regularly will help you keep the inflammation in check.

Don't worry, asthma is an inflammatory airway condition and does not turn into cancer. Keep your home dust-free and ensure your child is taking their daily preventative inhalers so their lungs stay healthy and strong.

Omg, I googled my breathing problems once and it basically told me I had two days to live! Please don't stress, asthma is super common and has nothing to do with lung cancer. Just see your doctor for peace of mind.
