Can asthma cause laryngitis?

After a very bad asthma attack with lots of coughing, my voice felt hoarse, and my throat was sore, like I had laryngitis. I was wondering if it's connected. Can asthma cause laryngitis, or was it just a bad cold at the same time?

Yes, chronic coughing from asthma or irritation from steroid inhalers can definitely lead to vocal cord inflammation. While it is generally manageable, a proper consultation with an ENT specialist or your pulmonologist is always the safest course.

Over the years, I have lost my voice quite a few times after heavy bouts of asthma coughing. It is very common, so do not worry too much. Resting your voice and drinking warm water usually brings it back in a few days.

Don't just keep drinking ginger tea hoping your voice will come back. If you have asthma and are hoarse for more than two weeks, it could be a fungal infection from the steroid pump. Get it checked by a real doctor instead of relying on internet tips.

I understand completely how scary it feels when you lose your voice and can't breathe properly at the same time; I used to panic badly. It turned out to be mild laryngitis from my inhaler use. Make sure you gargle with warm water after every puff.

The dry powder from some asthma inhalers can settle in the throat and cause irritation or horse voice if you don't rinse. Always rinse your mouth and gargle thoroughly after using your preventer pump to prevent this kind of throat inflammation.

The continuous coughing really tears up your throat tissues. I find that inhaling gentle steam and taking a teaspoon of warm honey mixed with a pinch of turmeric helps soothe the voice box immensely, along with keeping hydrated.
