Can asthma cause heartburn?

After I have a severe coughing fit from my asthma, I often get a burning sensation in my chest, almost like heartburn. I thought it was acidity, but it happens so often with my asthma. Can asthma cause heartburn, or am I eating something wrong?

Actually, my doctor explained that asthma medications, especially oral bronchodilators, can sometimes relax the lower esophageal sphincter. This allows stomach acid to flow back up, causing heartburn. It is a known connection called GERD-associated asthma.

Yes, they are definitely linked, and the coughing makes heartburn worse. Try elevating your head with an extra pillow at night, it really helps.

Oh, I totally face this! Sometimes the coughing from my asthma trigger-starts my acid reflux, and then the heartburn makes it even harder to breathe. Eating smaller meals and not lying down immediately after food has really saved me.

Don't blindly trust home remedies or random internet tips for this combination. Acid reflux can actually trigger asthma attacks, so you need a proper medical diagnosis. Please consult a gastroenterologist or pulmonologist to get the right treatment.

I used to get bad acidity along with my chest tightness. Now, I try to go for a gentle 20-minute walk after meals, which helps with digestion and keeps the acid down, as long as my breathing is stable and doctor allows it.
