Can asthma cause congestion?

Every time my asthma flares up, I feel very congested, like my chest is full and I can't clear it. I always assumed it was part of the problem. Can asthma cause congestion, or is it usually a separate cold symptom?

Yes, asthma definitely causes a lot of chest congestion because of the mucus buildup in the airways. Since I also have high BP, I make sure to avoid over-the-counter decongestants which can raise BP, and instead consult my doctor for the right inhaler dosage.

Chronic airway inflammation in asthma patients leads to heavy mucus production and congestion. Just like I monitor my thyroid, you need regular follow-ups with a pulmonologist to make sure your controller medication is managing this congestion effectively.

I get this heavy, rattling congestion in my chest every time the weather changes, and it makes me so anxious because I feel like I can't breathe at all. Does anyone else feel like their chest is completely blocked up during a flare-up?

Yes, excess mucus production during asthma naturally causes chest congestion. Drinking warm water throughout the day helps thin out the mucus and brings relief.

Hey, don't worry, chest congestion is a very standard part of asthma because the airways get inflamed and produce phlegm. Try taking some gentle steam inhalation to soothe your chest, and make sure you're using your regular inhaler properly.
