Can asthma be temporary?

I had breathing difficulties when I was a child, and the doctor said it was childhood asthma, but I grew out of it. Now I'm hearing about people getting adult-onset asthma. Can asthma be temporary, or was I just lucky?

In some cases, especially in children, asthma symptoms can improve or go away as they grow up. But just like managing my thyroid, it requires regular follow-ups and tests with a doctor to monitor the lung function before deciding if it is gone.

I totally get it, you must be hoping that this breathing trouble is just a passing phase and not a lifelong struggle. Sometimes, symptoms triggered by a specific allergy or infection can subside after a while. I hope you get some relief soon, please do take care.

Sometimes what feels like temporary asthma is actually cough-variant asthma or just hyperactive airways after a viral infection. I track my respiratory rate on my smartwatch, and it helps to see if the congestion is seasonal or temporary. Definitely consult a doc for a clear diagnosis.

Our bodies go through different phases of health and healing. Sometimes respiratory struggles are temporary and pass with time, clean air, and peace of mind. Stay positive, eat fresh food, and let the doctor guide your recovery journey.

I can only share what happened to me, as I am not a doctor. I had severe wheezing for about six months after a bad bout of pneumonia, and then it completely disappeared. The doctor told me my lungs were just sensitive temporarily after the infection.

I was looking into this too! It seems child-onset asthma can sometimes go into hiding or resolve during teenage years, which makes it seem temporary. But for adults, it is usually a long-term thing that just has periods of no symptoms.

My grandmother used to say that eating certain herbs would cure my childhood wheezing permanently, and indeed it went away for many years. But my doctor explained it just went into remission and could return if triggered. It is always best to trust the medical tests.
