Can anxiety mimic a heart attack?

My father experienced severe chest pain and breathlessness last night, and we rushed him to the hospital. The doctors said it was likely a panic attack due to anxiety, but it looked so much like a heart attack. Can anxiety really mimic a heart attack so closely?

Oh absolutely! One time I ate a massive spicy street food platter, got a bad panic attack, and the acidity combined with stress made me think I was having a heart attack. It turned out to be just heavy gas and anxiety. But seriously, chest pain is scary, so get it checked by a doc first.

Yes, panic attacks can cause chest tightness, shortness of breath, and sweating, which are classic signs of a heart attack. Because the physical symptoms are so overlapping, it is clinically impossible to self-diagnose. You must consult a doctor or go to an emergency room to rule out cardiac issues safely.

My hormonal imbalances from PCOS often trigger sudden, intense panic episodes where my chest feels like it's being squeezed. It is incredibly frightening and feels just like a heart problem. However, because both look so similar, please go to a clinic to get your heart checked by a doctor for your own peace of mind.

Do not search internet forums if you are currently feeling chest pain. While anxiety mimicry is very real, actual heart attacks are medical emergencies. Get off your phone and go to the nearest hospital or doctor immediately to get yourself evaluated properly.

Anxiety can raise your heart rate and cause hyperventilation, which makes your chest muscles contract and feel tight, mimicking a cardiac issue. It is a very common physical reaction. Just to be absolutely safe, get a proper checkup done by a doctor before assuming it is just a panic attack.

Haha, try staying awake for 36 hours straight drinking black coffee—your heart will beat so wild you'll start writing your will! Panic attacks totally feel like a heart attack, it's terrifying. But if you're seriously hurting, don't write funny posts, go see a doctor right now.

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful because we can sometimes have silent heart issues that feel like simple anxiety or indigestion. While anxiety can definitely mimic a heart attack with chest tightness, you should never assume it's just stress. Please visit a doctor immediately for a proper ECG.
