Can anxiety cause tummy pain?

I'm in college, and during exam season, I get really bad tummy pains all the time. My mother says it's because I'm so stressed. Can anxiety cause tummy pain?

Beta, when the mind is full of worry, the digestion gets disturbed. Try drinking some warm carom seed (ajwain) water with a pinch of black salt. It will help soothe the tummy, but eat very light food for a few days.

While stress can cause mild tummy discomfort, sharp or sudden pain could be something else like appendicitis or a gallbladder issue. Please do not ignore it. Go to a clinic to get it checked by a doctor for safety.

I completely relate to this! My stomach gets in tight knots whenever I feel anxious. I find that placing a warm hot water bag on my tummy and drinking peppermint tea really helps me relax. Take care!

My doctor told me that stress hormones like cortisol affect gut motility, which causes cramping and pain. He advised me to eat smaller meals and practice diaphragmatic breathing to calm the gut-brain connection.

Yes, stress ruins all my plans of eating good food! When my tummy hurts from anxiety, I stay away from spicy stuff and stick to comforting curd rice or sweet daliya. It really cools the stomach down.

Yes, absolutely. Whenever I have stress at work, my stomach gets very acidic and starts hurting. I usually drink a glass of cold milk or fresh buttermilk, and it cools down the burning sensation very quickly.

Oh, my tummy is basically a drama queen that overreacts to any stressful situation! It starts churning like a washing machine if I have to make a presentation. Just lie down, relax, and don't panic—it usually passes!
