Can anxiety cause jaw pain?

I often wake up with a really sore jaw, and my dentist said I might be clenching my teeth because of stress. Can anxiety actually cause jaw pain?

Bro, absolutely. I used to wake up with a super stiff jaw every morning during my final exams. Realized I was grinding my teeth like crazy at night because of stress. A simple night guard from the dentist saved me, honestly.

Yes, we unknowingly clench our teeth when stressed. I started keeping a reminder on my phone to relax my face every hour. Also, applying a warm compress on the cheeks before sleeping really helps loosen up those muscles.

It can, especially if you are chewing hard foods while stressed. Try eating softer, warm foods like khichdi or daliya for a few days to give your jaw some rest. Avoid chewing gum completely right now as it puts extra strain on those sore muscles.

I totally understand what you are going through, I used to worry I had some major dental or nerve issue. But jaw pain from anxiety is very real because we hold so much stress there. Just knowing that it was just my anxiety helped me stop worrying and the pain slowly went away.

Actually, when you are anxious, the body holds a lot of tension. I find that a simple 30-minute evening walk helps release that built-up stress so I don't clench my teeth as much. If your doctor says it is fine, light physical activity is great for relieving this physical tension.

Stress creates crazy tension in the neck and jaw. When I am lifting heavy or feeling stressed, I notice I clench a lot. Try some basic neck stretches and massage your jaw muscles gently. Also, make sure you aren't overdoing caffeine as it makes muscle tension worse.
