Can antibiotics cause fever?

Yesterday, I started taking antibiotics for a chest infection, but today I actually feel like my fever is a bit higher. Is it possible for antibiotics themselves to cause a fever, ya phir my infection is just getting worse?

Yes, actually! Sometimes your body can react to certain medicines, which is called a drug fever. 🤒 Just keep an eye on your temperature and let your doctor know so they can guide you properly!

Sometimes a drug fever is just the body's sensitivity to synthetic chemicals. During this time, make sure you are eating very light, easily digestible vegetarian food like moong dal khichdi to keep your digestive system calm. Don't take any other OTC tablets for fever without asking your physician first.

I totally get it, it is so confusing when the medicine that is supposed to make you feel better actually makes you feel warmer. Sometimes it is just a 'drug-induced fever' which goes away once the medicine is changed or stopped. Please take some rest and reach out to your doctor to stay safe.

Oh my god, this would make me so anxious! What if the antibiotic isn't working, or what if it's a side effect of the medicine itself? Please don't try to manage this at home. Check your temperature regularly and call your clinic immediately to ask if you should continue the dose.

I know how scary it is when you are already taking medicine to cure an illness and then suddenly get a new fever. It can make you feel like the infection is getting worse or something is wrong. Please don't panic, but do speak to your doctor to see if it is a reaction to the medicine.

My 8-year-old daughter got a sudden high fever on the third day of her antibiotic course, and I was so worried. When I called her pediatrician, they explained it was a mild allergic reaction to that specific drug and changed the medicine immediately. Keep a close watch and call your doctor right away if it doesn't settle.

I once ignored a rising fever while taking antibiotics, thinking it was just a normal reaction, but it turned out to be a severe allergic reaction that required emergency treatment. Please don't take it lightly if the fever is high or accompanied by skin rashes. Show a doctor immediately.

I used to put cold water strips on my son's forehead whenever he got a mild fever during his antibiotic course. It is quite common for strong medicines to cause a slight temperature spike as the body fights the infection. Keep them hydrated with coconut water and consult the doctor if the fever goes very high.
