Can antacids cause vomiting?
I started taking over-the-counter antacids for some stomach discomfort, but sometimes after taking them, I feel a bit nauseous and once even vomited. Is it possible for antacids themselves to cause vomiting?

Actually, yes! Last month I took a heavy dose of liquid antacid on an empty stomach and it made me feel so nauseous that I ended up vomiting. My doctor later told me that taking too much of it can sometimes upset the stomach's natural acid balance and trigger a puke reflex.
Sometimes the chalky taste or chemical ingredients in antacids can irritate a sensitive stomach and cause vomiting. I prefer chewing a bit of ginger or drinking fennel water for mild acidity. But if you are constantly throwing up after taking them, please consult a doctor to rule out any severe ulcer or infection.
Don't believe people who say you can cure this by just drinking more water or changing brands. If antacids are making you vomit, it could be a sign of a deeper gastritis issue or a reaction to the magnesium/calcium in the syrup. Go to a proper clinic and get a prescription.
As a diabetic, I have to be very careful with sugary antacid syrups as they mess with my levels, and sometimes they make my stomach feel very bloated and nauseous. If you are vomiting, it can also cause your blood sugar to drop dangerously. Please check with your doctor before taking any OTC digestive syrups.
I used to have severe acid reflux and found out that overusing magnesium-heavy antacids can definitely trigger nausea and vomiting. The trick is never to chug them on a totally full or totally empty stomach. If the vomiting persists, stop taking them immediately and get your stomach lining checked by a specialist.
