Can an ultrasound detect cancer of the stomach?

Persistent stomach discomfort and indigestion have been bothering me for a while now. My doctor suggested an ultrasound. Can an ultrasound scan be effective in detecting cancer in the stomach, or are other tests usually needed?

Honestly, an ultrasound is not the primary tool for stomach issues because of gas interference in the abdomen. Usually, an endoscopy is what doctors suggest to actually see inside. Meanwhile, focus on light meals and keeping active with regular walks, but definitely follow whatever diagnostic plan your doctor sets up.

In my experience, abdominal ultrasounds are mostly used to check solid organs like the liver or kidneys. For the stomach, doctors always prefer an endoscopy to get a direct view. Keep your mind calm with gentle deep breathing exercises and let the specialists do the necessary investigations.

Ultrasounds are great for seeing babies or gallstones, but our stomach is full of gas and food, which makes it a terrible camera for stomach lining cancer. You will likely need an endoscopy, which means getting a tiny camera down your throat. Don't worry, they usually give you nice sedatives so you sleep right through it!

Please do not rely on just an ultrasound for any severe stomach symptoms. My relative delayed treatment because their initial scan showed nothing, but later we found out it was much more serious. Go to a reputed hospital and get a gastroenterologist to evaluate you thoroughly.

Beta, stomach issues can happen due to many reasons, sometimes just simple heat or acidity. You can try drinking some warm fennel water to soothe the stomach, but for serious doubts like cancer, an ultrasound is not enough. You must go to a big hospital and get the tests done that the doctor recommends.

Direct answer is no, a simple ultrasound is highly unlikely to detect stomach cancer early on. You need a proper endoscopy or a CT scan for that. Skip the guesswork and get an appointment with a gastroenterologist immediately.
