Can an infant sleep in a crib?

My wife and I are setting up the nursery for our first baby, who is due next month. We bought a crib, but some relatives are saying it's better to co-sleep initially. We're a bit confused; can an infant safely sleep in a crib right from birth, or should we wait?

Yes, they can! Though most of the time they'll probably prefer sleeping right on your face or chest anyway. Just keep the crib clutter-free and let them practice sleeping there, eventually they will get used to it.

Of course they can sleep in a crib, but make sure the mattress is firm and there are no loose blankets or soft toys inside. Don't make it complicated. Keep the crib in your own bedroom so you can monitor them easily, simple as that.

Cribs are safe, but safe sleep practices are absolutely critical to prevent SIDS. Always place your baby on their back, use a firm mattress, and never put pillows or heavy quilts inside the crib. If your baby has reflux or breathing issues, consult your pediatrician about the best sleeping position.

My cousin bought this fancy wooden crib for her baby but the little guy only sleeps when he is co-sleeping with my aunt. So yes, they can sleep in it legally, but whether they actually agree to sleep there is a whole different game!

I'm planning to move my three-month-old to a crib but I'm so scared of leaving her there alone. Did anyone else feel incredibly anxious during the first few nights? How did you manage to get any sleep while keeping an eye on them?

Yes, they can sleep in a crib. Just make sure the bar spacing is correct so their head doesn't get stuck, which is a detail I once overlooked and it caused a huge scare. Always double-check safety certifications for your baby gear before using it.

Hey, don't stress too much about this! Cribs are perfectly safe and great for babies as long as they are flat and firm. Just place the baby on their back and keep the space empty. You are doing a great job, so take it easy.
