Can an ear ache cause jaw pain?

I've had a really bad earache since yesterday, and now my jaw on the same side is also aching a lot, especially when I chew. I'm wondering if the ear pain can radiate and cause this jaw discomfort? It's making it hard to eat.

Yes, beta, the nerves of the ear and jaw are closely connected, so pain in one can easily reach the other. Putting a few drops of warm mustard oil with garlic in the ear can help with mild pain, but if it persists, you must show it to an ENT doctor.

I was actually reading about this because I had a weird pain near my ear while chewing. It turns out the TMJ joint is right next to the ear canal, so a problem in either can make both hurt. Pretty interesting how our body works!

I had this exact issue last year where my jaw would hurt every time I opened my mouth, along with a dull earache. In my case, it turned out to be a wisdom tooth infection rather than an ear problem. A quick visit to the dentist sorted it out.

Yes, definitely. I just got over a severe outer ear infection and the pain was radiating all the way down my jaw, making it hard to even chew my food. Once the doctor started me on antibiotic ear drops, both pains vanished within three days.

An earache and jaw pain can be due to an ear infection, a dental issue, or even a joint problem like TMJ disorder. Because the causes can vary so much, it is highly recommended to get a proper physical examination by a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.
