Can an anxiety attack mimic a heart attack?

Last week I had a really stressful day at work, and suddenly I felt this crushing chest pain, shortness of breath, and my left arm tingled. I thought I was having a heart attack, but the doctor said it was an anxiety attack. Is it common for anxiety to feel so much like a heart attack?

Yes, the symptoms like chest tightness, shortness of breath, and sweating are incredibly similar. While it's often just anxiety, it is medically impossible to differentiate them without an ECG. Getting a doctor's evaluation is always the safest approach.

Please don't assume it's just stress or anxiety. I once ignored severe chest heaviness thinking it was a panic attack, and it turned out to be a mild cardiac event that required immediate care. Get checked by a doctor right away if you feel chest pain.

I am new to this and recently felt my heart beating very fast during an exam. Can a panic attack actually cause actual pain in the left arm too, or is that only during a heart attack?

Oh absolutely. Nothing wakes you up at 3 AM like a racing heart and thinking 'yup, this is the end'. Usually, it's just my brain overthinking life, but honestly, checking in with a doc is better than staying awake all night googling symptoms.

My cardiologist explained that anxiety triggers a massive adrenaline release, which mimics cardiac symptoms like hyperventilation and chest pressure. He advised that any chest pain radiating to the jaw or arm, especially with sweating, must be treated as a cardiac emergency first.

Yes, fear can make the heart race wildly. Drinking warm milk with cardamom can help soothe the mind, but please remember that chest pain must always be checked by a doctor first to rule out any serious heart trouble.

Having high BP myself, I always worry when my heart starts racing. While anxiety can mimic a heart attack, we shouldn't take chances. Regular BP checks and a doctor's advice are essential to make sure it's not a real heart issue.

Don't rely on online forums to self-diagnose chest pain as 'just anxiety'. It is dangerous to assume. Go to a clinic, get an ECG and a basic checkup done, and let a real doctor tell you if your heart is perfectly fine.

At 50, every little chest squeeze makes me wonder if I should write my will or just stop drinking so much chai. It usually is just gas or anxiety, but at this age, I'd rather visit the doc than guess.

It definitely can mimic one due to the sudden spike in heart rate. If your doctor has already cleared your cardiovascular health, then focusing on cardio, a clean diet, and stress-relief exercises can help manage these panic episodes.

Bro, yes. During finals week, I literally thought I was having a heart attack because my chest felt so heavy and my hands went numb. Turned out it was just a massive panic attack, but it is seriously scary.

I was just reading about this yesterday because my friend had a sudden panic episode. It's crazy how much the mind can affect the body, making you feel physical chest pain that feels exactly like a real emergency.
