Can adults get type 1 diabetes?

Someone I know, in their mid-30s, was recently told they have Type 1 diabetes. I always believed it was a condition only for children. Is it true that adults can also get Type 1 diabetes?

Yes, they can. It is often called Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) and people confuse it with Type 2. Don't waste time trying to guess based on symptoms; just get a fast blood test done so you can plan your work schedule and diet accordingly.

Actually yes, it can develop at any age. If you are experiencing sudden weight loss or extreme thirst, please don't ignore it. It is very important to get your HbA1c and autoantibody tests done safely under a doctor's guidance.

Yes, and please take it seriously. I was misdiagnosed with Type 2 at first, and because of the wrong treatment, I ended up with severe diabetic ketoacidosis in the ICU. Please consult a proper endocrinologist who can run the right tests.

Yes, adults can get Type 1 too, it's not just a childhood disease. My son has Type 1, and I know how overwhelming it is at first. But don't worry, once you learn how to balance insulin and meals, you can live a very active, healthy life.

Yes, adults can get Type 1 diabetes. It is less common than Type 2, but it definitely happens.

Yes beta, adults can definitely develop Type 1 diabetes. It is a bit different from Type 2 because the body stops making insulin altogether. Don't get scared by reading stuff online, just visit a good family doctor who will guide you gently.

My colleague was diagnosed with Type 1 at age 32. He had suddenly lost like 8 kgs in a month and was constantly running to the washroom. It was a huge shock to him, but now he manages it well with his insulin pump.

Yes, adult-onset Type 1 is a reality. As someone who has been managing diabetes for ten years, I can tell you that keeping a strict watch on carbs and checking your sugars regularly is life-changing. But first, get a clear diagnosis from your doctor.

Haan, it is possible. If you suspect this, check out package deals at local labs like Lal PathLabs or Thyrocare for sugar and C-peptide tests, as individual tests can run up a high bill. Plan your finances because insulin and test strips are a recurring monthly expense.

Yes, adults can get it. Please don't fall for WhatsApp forwards claiming you can cure this with bitter gourd juice or yoga. Type 1 is an autoimmune condition and absolutely requires medical supervision and insulin. Verify everything with a real doctor.

Bro, yes they can. One of my senior seniors in college got diagnosed with Type 1 last year. We all thought only little kids get it, but turns out it can hit adults too. Better to get checked if u feel constantly tired.
