Can adults develop asthma?

I've been experiencing wheezing and shortness of breath lately, especially at night. Someone suggested it might be asthma, but I never had it as a child. Is it possible for adults to develop asthma later in life?

Yes, adult-onset asthma is actually quite common, especially after a bad respiratory infection or due to workplace allergies. Don't worry, it is very manageable with the right inhalers once you get a spirometry test done.

Beta, with the increasing pollution in our cities, many older people are developing breathing troubles now. Drink warm ginger-honey water to soothe your airways, but do consult a chest specialist for proper treatment.

I know how terrifying it feels when you suddenly can't breathe properly and start wheezing out of nowhere. It is incredibly scary, but please know that getting a proper diagnosis will help you regain control.

I developed a cough last month and instantly panicked thinking it was asthma or something worse. It is so stressful to deal with chest tightness. Please get it checked so you can stop worrying about it.

Yes, adults can develop asthma at any age, often triggered by environmental factors or allergies. A pulmonologist can do a simple breathing test to confirm it and prescribe the correct preventive treatment.

Please don't take sudden wheezing lightly. I ignored my shortness of breath for weeks until I had a severe attack and had to be rushed to the emergency room, so please get a proper inhaler prescribed immediately.
