Can acid reflux kill you in your sleep?

My acid reflux sometimes gets so bad that I wake up gasping for air. I heard some scary stories online. Can severe acid reflux actually be life-threatening or 'kill you' in your sleep?

No, acid reflux itself is not going to kill you in your sleep, so stop reading scary articles online. However, chronic reflux can severely mess up your sleep quality and damage your food pipe over time. Just get a proper doctor's appointment to manage it.

My thyroid issues often cause bad digestion and severe nighttime reflux, which used to make me wake up choking. While it is not fatal, it is a sign that your body's systems need attention. Please consult a doctor and get regular checkups to manage your overall health properly.

Having warm water or chewing some fennel seeds before sleeping can help soothe mild nighttime acidity. But if you are regularly waking up choking, coughing, or gasping for breath, please see a doctor immediately to ensure your airways are safe.

Hey, don't worry, it won't kill you! I also used to get terrified when I woke up with acid in my throat at night. I started using a slightly higher pillow and stopped eating late, which helped so much. Definitely talk to a doc to help ease your anxiety.

My daughter used to wake up crying at night because of severe acid reflux choking her. It is extremely scary as a parent, but our pediatrician assured us it's treatable. Please take your symptoms to a doctor so you can get the right medication and sleep peacefully.

Managing my PCOS has taught me how interconnected digestion and sleep are. While acid reflux is generally not fatal, severe choking at night should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to prevent respiratory issues. Please get a proper doctor's opinion.
