Can acid reflux cause vomiting at night?

Sometimes, after dinner, I get acid reflux that wakes me up from sleep with a burning sensation, and I end up vomiting. It's very disturbing. Is it possible for acid reflux to cause vomiting specifically at night?

Yes, lying down flat makes it very easy for stomach acid to travel up your throat, which triggers vomiting at night. I dealt with this for a year. Elevating my pillows by a few inches and stopping all food intake three hours before bedtime completely resolved the issue, but you should still consult your physician.

It actually does, yaar. I used to wake up choking in the middle of the night and end up throwing up. My doctor told me to stop having late-night tea and heavy dinners, which helped a lot. Do visit a doctor if it's happening regularly.

This is a very common issue when we eat heavy dinner and go straight to bed. Try having a lighter dinner by 8 PM and take a short walk after. If the night vomiting still continues, please go to a clinic and get some proper medicine prescribed.

My thyroid imbalance often messes up my digestion, causing severe nocturnal acidity and vomiting. I highly recommend getting regular blood work done and consulting your doctor, as digestive issues can sometimes be linked to other hormonal imbalances.

Yes, sleep positioning is critical. My fitness tracker showed my sleep quality was terrible because acid reflux was waking me up with nausea at 2 AM. Try using a wedge pillow to keep your head elevated, and definitely talk to a doctor to get a long-term solution.

Oh god, waking up with vomiting at night is so terrifying, I would honestly panic so much thinking it is something life-threatening. Please don't stress too much as it is usually just severe acid reflux, but do get a doctor's checkup so you can sleep peacefully without anxiety.

Yes, the horizontal position at night causes the acid to rise, leading to vomiting. Try sleeping on your left side as it keeps the stomach below the esophagus, and do consult a doctor for medicine.
