Can acid reflux cause cancer esophagus?

My doctor mentioned something about Barrett's esophagus due to my chronic acid reflux, and that it increases certain risks. I'm quite worried about the possibility. Can acid reflux cause cancer of the esophagus?

I had severe acid reflux for five years and was terrified of this. When I finally got an endoscopy, my doctor found mild inflammation but nothing serious. He explained that while chronic damage is a risk factor, it takes a long time and doesn't happen to everyone, which was a huge relief for me.

This is a serious topic, so it is best not to rely on guess work or online forums. If you have been suffering from constant acid reflux for years, or if you feel food getting stuck in your throat, please see a gastroenterologist immediately. A timely endoscopy can give you complete clarity.

Managing diabetes means I have to be extremely careful with my digestion too. Frequent acidity can irritate the esophageal lining over time, so we must not ignore it. I always focus on fiber-rich, low-sugar meals to keep my stomach quiet and prevent long-term acid complications.

Look, fear won't solve anything. If you keep letting acid burn your food pipe day and night and do nothing about it, of course it can cause long-term damage. Stop eating spicy street food, lose some weight, and go get a proper prescription from a doctor instead of worrying.

My grandmother used to say that ignoring stomach heat for too long invites big trouble. While she gave me warm milk and cumin water, my doctor explained that persistent acid can lead to Barrett's esophagus, which has a very small risk of turning serious. Trusting the doctor and getting a checkup is always the best path.

Actually yaar, don't read too much on the internet, it will just make you super stressed. Yes, there is a connection if the acid keeps burning your throat for decades without any treatment. But if you are taking basic care and eating on time, the chances are very low.

Hey, take a deep breath and don't panic. It is true that years of neglected, severe GERD can sometimes cause changes in the food pipe cells, but it is not a direct jump to cancer. Just focus on managing your symptoms right now with a doctor's help and you'll be perfectly safe.
