Can a torn rotator cuff cause neck pain and headaches?

For a few months now, I've been struggling with a torn rotator cuff. Lately, I've also developed frequent neck pain and severe headaches. Is it possible that the shoulder injury is causing these other symptoms?

Yes, absolutely. When your shoulder is injured, you keep your arm stiff, which tightens your neck muscles and triggers tension headaches. A simple solution is using a warm compress on your neck and taking proper rest before spending on heavy treatments.

The nerves and muscles of the neck, shoulder, and head are deeply connected in our body. When there is a tear in the shoulder, it creates blockages and tension that travel upward, causing headaches. Gentle neck movements and deep breathing can help release this tension slowly.

I am not an expert, but muscle compensation is very real when you are in pain. If your shoulder is weak, your neck muscles might be working overtime, which easily causes tension headaches. It might be good to discuss this with a doctor to be sure.

Yes, a shoulder injury can cause severe muscle tension in the neck, which often leads to tension headaches. Please try to rest your arm and get it checked by a physiotherapist soon.

I can only share what happened to me when I injured my shoulder lifting weights. The stiffness spread up to my neck within a week, and I started getting terrible headaches on the same side. Once my shoulder started healing, the headaches stopped too.
