Can a thin person get type 2 diabetes?

My grandmother developed type 2 diabetes even though she was never overweight. This worries me because I'm also quite thin, but I'm conscious of my family history. Is it really possible for a thin person to develop type 2 diabetes?

I really feel for anyone asking this because I went through a phase of complete denial myself. I am quite lean and when my doctor suggested a fasting sugar test, I felt so hurt and confused, like what did I do wrong? But yes, lean diabetes is very real, and getting tested is the only way to be sure.

Arey, absolutely! People think only we round-bellied folks get it, but my brother-in-law is thin as a bamboo and his sugar levels are touching the sky. Diabetes doesn't care about your waist size, it just needs a bad lifestyle or poor genes!

Yes, absolutely. Being thin does not make you immune to type 2 diabetes, so please get checked if you have symptoms.

Hey, don't stress too much about your weight, but yes, even thin people can get type 2. In India, we actually have something called 'thin-fat' where we look slim but have fat around our organs. Just get a routine blood test done to be safe, bro.

Yes, thin people can definitely get type 2 diabetes due to genetics or internal fat. It's best to get an HbA1c test done to check your average sugar levels.
