Can a smear detect ovarian cancer?

I just had my routine Pap smear done, and while waiting for the results, I started thinking about its utility. Can a regular Pap smear detect ovarian cancer, or is it only for cervical issues? My aunt had ovarian cancer, so I'm a bit paranoid.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to worry about silent cancers, it can really keep you up at night. Just to reassure you, a smear test is specifically for cervical health, not the ovaries. It is totally normal to feel confused about these medical tests, so don't be hard on yourself.

Please listen to me, a Pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer, it only checks for cervical cancer. I once ignored bloating and abdominal pain thinking my routine tests were fine, and it turned out to be a major health issue later. If you have any unusual pelvic symptoms, please get a proper ultrasound done.

No, a Pap smear is not designed to screen for ovarian cancer. It only screens for abnormal cells in the cervix. For evaluating any concerns regarding the ovaries, your doctor will typically advise a pelvic ultrasound or specific blood tests like CA-125.

I barely slept three hours last night because of my baby, so my brain is mush, but I know this one. A smear test definitely does not detect ovarian cancer. It's only for the cervix, so don't rely on it for anything else. Best to check with your doctor for a proper scan.

I used to overthink this so much and thought a normal Pap smear meant I was completely safe from all gynecological issues. When I found out it doesn't check the ovaries, my anxiety spiked! If you are feeling worried, please discuss doing a pelvic scan with your doctor to ease your mind.

Don't believe anyone online who says a smear test is enough to check your overall reproductive health. It is a common myth, but a Pap smear will not catch ovarian cancer. You need to consult a qualified gynecologist to understand what screening you actually need.

Beta, in my life I have learned that we must ask doctors the right questions. A Pap smear is only for cervical cancer screening, not for the ovaries. If you have bloating, stomach fullness, or pain, go to a good gynecologist and ask them to check your ovaries specifically.
