Can a skinny person get diabetes?

My friend is very thin, always has been, and she eats quite healthy too. Recently, her family has a history of diabetes, so she's worried. Can a skinny person like her also get diabetes, or is it mostly for overweight people?

Beta, don't think that diabetes only happens to heavy people, it can happen to anyone if the internal system is weak. In our times, we focused on eating methi seeds soaked in water and keeping a active lifestyle. Make sure to get a proper blood checkup from a lab to see what the doctor says.

Yes, absolutely, lean diabetes is very real and often ignored. It's always best to get an HbA1c test done yearly even if you look perfectly fit.

I constantly worry about this because I'm quite thin but my father has diabetes. I keep reading that 'skinny fat' is a real thing where fat builds up around visceral organs. If you have a family history or feel unusually thirsty, please get tested just to clear your mind, the anxiety is not worth it.

As someone living with PCOS, I know firsthand that insulin resistance doesn't care about your weight. You can look very lean on the outside but still have high blood sugar issues internally. It's really important to look at internal health markers rather than just the weighing scale.

Yes, skinny people can definitely get diabetes as it often relates to genetics and how our pancreas functions. Please don't worry too much, just a simple routine blood test at a clinic will give you clear answers.

Yes, diet plays a huge role here regardless of your body shape. A vegetarian diet high in refined carbs, maida, and sugary sweets can spike blood sugar levels even in skinny people. Focus on adding high-fiber foods like whole grains, sprouts, and leafy greens to your meals.
