Can a shoulder injury cause neck pain?

A few weeks back, I injured my shoulder playing cricket, and it's slowly recovering. But recently, I've started noticing some stiffness and pain in my neck too. Is it possible that the shoulder injury is somehow causing this neck pain, or could it be something else entirely?

Yes, absolutely. The muscles in your shoulder and neck are closely connected, so an injury in one area often radiates pain to the other.

When I sprained my shoulder during a workout, I started getting a dull ache in my neck within two days. My physiotherapist explained that the trapezius muscle connects both areas, which is why the pain spreads. It got better after proper rest.

In my experience, this is very common. I hurt my rotator cuff a few years ago and ended up with terrible neck stiffness because my neck muscles were overcompensating. Rest well, use a hot compress, and do see a doctor if it doesn't improve.

Yes, it can certainly happen because those muscles work together. Please don't worry, but do try to avoid lifting heavy things for a few days. Getting a doctor's advice will help you recover smoothly.

I had neck pain that I thought was related to my thyroid, but it actually came from a minor shoulder strain. The nerves and muscles are all linked. I highly recommend visiting a physiotherapist or doctor to get a proper checkup.
