Can a pulled chest muscle cause chest pain?

After a heavy workout session at the gym yesterday, I've developed a sharp pain in my chest, especially when I move my arm or cough. I'm worried about chest pain, of course, but I also think I might have just overexerted myself with the bench press. Is it common for a pulled chest muscle to cause significant chest pain like this?

Yes, a pulled pectoral muscle can cause very sharp, sudden chest pain, especially when you twist or breathe deeply. If you've been lifting heavy or tracking high-intensity workouts, this is very common, but always rule out heart issues first.

It can definitely cause sharp chest pain. Since I have thyroid issues, I have learned never to guess about chest discomfort and always get a quick checkup and ECG from my physician just to be on the safe side.

Yes, a muscle strain in the chest is very painful and feels scary. Try to rest, apply a warm compress, and please visit a doctor if the pain doesn't go away.

At my age, even a sneeze can pull a chest muscle and make you think your time has come! It is very common, but chest pain should never be ignored. Go get an ECG done first, then put some pain relief spray.

Oh absolutely! It can feel like a mini heart attack and scare the life out of you, only for the doctor to tell you that you just lifted a grocery bag too enthusiastically. Rest up and try not to flex too much!

Yes, intercostal muscle strains or pectoral tears cause intense localized pain. A good indicator is if the pain is tender to touch or changes when you move. Still, safety first: any chest pain needs a quick clinical evaluation to rule out cardiac causes.

I rushed to the emergency room at 2 AM last month thinking it was a heart attack, but it was just a muscle strain from moving furniture. If the pain increases when you touch the area, it is likely muscular, but getting checked will ease your mind.
