Can a person with sickle cell anemia get malaria?

My daughter has sickle cell anemia, and we live in an area where malaria is quite common. I've heard conflicting things about how these two conditions interact. Can a person with sickle cell anemia still contract malaria, or does the sickle cell trait offer some protection?

Yes, they can get malaria, but medically it is seen that the sickle cell trait provides some natural resistance against severe malaria. Even so, we must protect the body gently with mosquito nets and keep our surroundings clean. A peaceful mind and clean habits keep diseases away.

Actually yes, they can still get infected. People think sickle cell makes you completely immune to malaria, but that's a myth. It only reduces the severity of a specific type of malaria. Don't take risks, use mosquito repellents and coils if you are in a high-risk area.

Don't trust random biology facts on the internet saying sickle cell patients are safe from malaria. It only offers partial protection against severe Plasmodium falciparum, but you can still get sick. Always verify prevention and treatment protocols with a qualified hematologist.

Yes, they can definitely catch malaria. I get so worried reading about how sickle cell crises can be triggered by infections. If you have sickle cell and get a fever, please don't wait around thinking you have natural immunity. Go to a clinic immediately to be safe.

Haan, malaria ho toh sakta hai unhe bhi, par genetics ki wajah se thoda advantage rehta hai severe cases mein. Lekin iska matlab yeh nahi na ki machhar se darna band kar dein! Full sleeves pehno aur precaution zaroor lo.

Yes, they can get infected. To prevent mosquito bites, you can burn neem leaves or use citronella oil at home. But if a person with sickle cell develops a high fever, shivering, or body pain, do not rely on home remedies. Take them to a doctor immediately.

Yes, individuals with sickle cell anemia can contract malaria. While the sickle cell trait offers a protective survival advantage against severe malaria, those with full sickle cell disease are actually at a higher risk of severe complications if infected. Prompt medical consultation is necessary for any fever.
