Can a person sneeze in their sleep?

My wife often tells me that I sneeze in my sleep, but I don't remember it at all when I wake up. Is it actually possible for a person to sneeze while they're sleeping without fully waking up?

I am not very sure about this, but I think our body reflexes are shut down when we sleep. Does anyone know if waking up slightly to sneeze actually counts as sneezing in sleep?

I actually had a severe dust allergy recently and thought I was sneezing while asleep. My wife told me I actually woke up for a second, sneezed, and immediately fell back asleep without remembering. So you don't actually sneeze during deep sleep.

Actually, no, your body's reflex muscles are relaxed during deep sleep, so you cannot sneeze without waking up first.

I read that we can't sneeze in our sleep, but sometimes I wake up gasping and sneezing at night. Does anyone else feel this sudden allergy attack in the middle of the night? It makes me so anxious to sleep.

Direct answer: No, you can't. The nervous system blocks the sneezing reflex during sleep. If dust triggers you, you'll wake up, sneeze, and sleep again, simple as that.

Scientific consensus states that during REM sleep, the body is in a state of muscle atonia, which disables the sneezing reflex. Therefore, you must wake up to sneeze. For persistent nighttime allergy concerns, a doctor's advice is best.

I barely sleep for 4 hours anyway, but honestly, you can't sneeze during sleep because your brain shuts off that reflex. If you do sneeze, congratulations, your brain just woke you up to do it!

You cannot sneeze while fully asleep due to our body's natural sleep mechanics. If allergies are waking you up at night, it can affect your sleep quality and blood pressure. Focus on a clean sleeping environment and get your routine checkups.

Don't believe random online posts claiming you can sneeze while dreaming. Medically, your motor neurons are suppressed during REM sleep, meaning a sneeze is impossible without waking. Always verify these facts with a proper doctor or medical journal.

Haha, no way! If we could sneeze in our sleep, I would have sneezed out all the spicy masala from my late-night biryani cravings. Your body wakes you up first, so sleep peacefully without any worry!

You don't sneeze while asleep, but if you wake up constantly sneezing, don't ignore it like I did. I ignored my night allergies until they turned into chronic sinus issues. Get a proper ENT checkup done before it worsens.

No, you cannot. When I visited Fortis for my allergy issues, the ENT specialist clearly explained that the sneezing reflex is completely inactive during sleep. If you are having night allergies, ask your doctor clearly for appropriate nasal sprays.
