Can a pap smear detect ovarian cancer?

My aunt recently passed away from ovarian cancer, and it has made me very health-conscious. I get regular pap smears, but I'm not sure if that test is enough to detect ovarian cancer too. Can a pap smear actually pick up signs of it?

No, it actually doesn't. A pap smear is specifically for cervical cancer. For ovarian cancer, you usually need a pelvic ultrasound or blood tests. Keep active, eat healthy, but make sure you get the right tests done.

No, pap tests only check the cervix. Ovarian cancer tests like transvaginal ultrasounds or CA-125 blood tests are separate and cost a bit more. It is better to plan your health checkups accordingly so you don't get surprised by the bill.

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought a pap smear covers all female reproductive health issues. If it doesn't detect ovarian cancer, what test should we ask the doctor for? I am a bit confused about this.

Clear cut answer: No. Pap smear is only for cervical cancer. For ovaries, you need different scans. Don't mix up the two, and get the correct tests done from a good doctor.

No, a pap smear won't help with ovarian cancer. Don't waste time thinking a normal pap report means your ovaries are fine. If you have bloating or pelvic pain, directly ask your gynac for an ultrasound to save time.
