Can a pacemaker stop a heart attack?

My father has a pacemaker and he's always anxious about another heart attack. We've explained it helps regulate his heartbeat, but he asked me if it's capable of actually stopping a heart attack if one were to occur. I'm not sure how to answer him correctly.

Haha, I wish it worked like a superhero shield! But no, a pacemaker can't stop a heart attack because that is a plumbing issue (blocked artery) and the pacemaker only handles the electrical wiring. Keep your emergency numbers handy just in case!

No, it cannot stop an attack. My neighbor had one fitted and we researched this. It only regulates the rhythm. Eating low-oil food, keeping cholesterol low, and regular doctor visits are the only real ways to prevent attacks.

No, a pacemaker cannot prevent or stop a heart attack. A heart attack happens due to blocked blood vessels, whereas a pacemaker coordinates the electrical signals. It is very important to seek immediate medical help if there is chest pain.

I used to panic thinking my grandfather's pacemaker would fail during an emergency. But the doctor reassured me that while it doesn't stop heart attacks, it keeps his heartbeat stable otherwise. Just follow the prescribed meds and lifestyle advice.

Hey, don't stress too much! A pacemaker is great for keeping the heart's rhythm in check, but it won't block a heart attack. If you or a family member has chest pain, go straight to the doc instead of relying on the device.
