Can a one month old sleep through the night?

My baby is just one month old and I'm totally exhausted from all the night feedings. My sister-in-law said her baby started sleeping through the night around this age. Is it normal for such a young infant to sleep for long stretches?

From what I have seen with my sisters' babies, a one-month-old sleeping through the night is very rare. Their tiny tummies need milk every 2-3 hours. Don't worry if they wake up constantly, it is totally normal at this stage.

Practically speaking, no. A one-month-old baby needs to feed every few hours to gain weight properly. Sleeping 3 to 4 hours stretch is already a big win at this age. If they sleep longer than 5 hours, you might actually need to wake them for a feed.

Not really, man. Their biological clock is not set yet. It's like waking up for a midnight protein shake, they just need fuel constantly. Make sure the mother is eating well and resting whenever the baby sleeps to keep her energy up.

At one month, their stomach is the size of an egg, so they can't hold enough milk to sleep 7-8 hours. Breast milk digests very fast. Just focus on feeding them on demand right now, schedule will come later.

Honestly, don't expect it so soon. Save your energy because the first few months are just sleepless nights. Instead of spending money on fancy sleep consultants or gadgets, just take shifts with your partner to manage the night duties.
