Can a newborn sleep in a swing?

We received a baby swing as a gift, and it's great for keeping the baby happy and calm during the day. However, I'm a bit confused about using it overnight. Can a newborn sleep in a swing for longer periods or at night?

Actually yaar, it is not safe for a newborn to sleep in a swing. Their neck muscles are too weak, so their head can slump forward and block their airway. It is okay for supervised awake time, but definitely not for sleeping.

I totally get it, you are exhausted and the swing is the only place the baby stops crying. But please be very careful, as sleeping at an incline is dangerous for newborns. It is much safer to transition them to a flat surface once they drift off.

My baby would only sleep in the swing last month and I was so tempted to leave him there. But my pediatrician strictly warned me against it due to suffocation risks. I started transferring him to the crib as soon as he fell asleep, and it worked out fine.

As a rule of thumb, newborns need a flat, firm surface to sleep safely. In a swing, the upright angle can cause their heavy head to fall forward, which can cut off their oxygen. If they fall asleep there, just gently move them to their crib.

I tried everything to soothe my fussy grandbaby, but a swing should only be used for play. For safe sleeping, nothing beats a simple, flat traditional cotton mattress on the floor or in a crib.

Honestly, don't let the baby sleep in the swing. My nephew used to doze off in one, but the doctor told my sister it is a big risk for positional asphyxia. Always put them on a flat bed for sleeping.

Just like we shouldn't sleep on a dining table, babies need the right spot for their rest. Swing is fun for a little rocking while you watch them, but for proper sleep, a flat crib is the safest ingredient.

Please avoid letting your newborn sleep in the swing. It is best to move them to a flat, safe crib or cot for all their naps.

After dealing with premature baby complications, I became very strict about sleep safety. Swings are not approved for safe sleep because of the chin-to-chest risk. Please ask your pediatrician about safe sleeping setups.

Instead of spending money on expensive electric swings which are actually not safe for sleep anyway, invest in a simple, flat cot. It is much cheaper, safer, and will last you for years.

Just like keeping our health parameters safe requires strict rules, baby sleep safety is non-negotiable. Newborns must always sleep flat on their backs on a firm surface. Avoid letting them sleep in swings to prevent breathing hazards.

Swings are great to quiet a fussy baby, but not for regular sleeping. If the baby falls asleep, immediately lift them and put them on a flat, firm mattress. It is a simple, zero-cost habit that keeps your baby completely safe.

I am expecting my first baby next month and bought a beautiful swing. Is it really unsafe even if I am sitting right next to them watching? I would love to know how other moms managed this.

According to the AAP guidelines, infant swings are not safe for sleep. My pediatrician emphasized that sleeping at an incline can lead to airway obstruction because of a newborn's heavy head. They must sleep flat on their back.

Keeping stress down is important, but safety comes first. Do not let the newborn sleep in a swing, as the inclined angle is risky for their airways. Let them sleep on a flat mattress in your room.
