Can a lot of mucus cause vomiting?

Been down with a really bad cold for a few days, and there's so much mucus in my throat. I've also started feeling very nauseous and even vomited a couple of times. Can having a lot of mucus actually trigger vomiting?

Yes, absolutely. When there is too much mucus dripping down the back of your throat, it triggers the gag reflex and easily leads to vomiting, especially in the morning. You can try inhaling steam twice a day and drinking warm ginger water to thin the mucus. But if the vomiting is severe, please consult a doctor.

Yes, heavy post-nasal drip can irritate the stomach lining and cause vomiting. When my child had a severe cough with lots of mucus, I went to a pediatrician at a multi-specialty hospital. They explained how mucus triggers the gag reflex and prescribed the correct expectorant. I suggest you ask your doctor clearly for a proper solution.

I really feel for you, as throwing up because of constant mucus is so physically exhausting and emotionally draining. I used to cry during bad cold seasons because the gagging feeling from mucus in my throat was so relentless. Please don't suffer in silence; getting some professional advice can bring you so much relief.

Yes, excess mucus can irritate the throat and stomach, leading to vomiting. However, persistent vomiting can lead to dehydration or might point to an infection like bronchitis. For your own safety, it is always best to get it checked by a doctor to find the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms.

Haan yaar, bilkul ho sakti hai vomiting. Jab kaph gale mein phasa rehta hai toh ulti jaisa lagta hi hai, khas kar subah uthte hi. Thoda garam paani piyo aur steam lo na, isse mucus loose hoga. Agar halat zyada kharab ho toh doctor ko dikhane mein hi samajhdari hai.

Yes, excessive mucus sliding down the throat is known to trigger the gag reflex and cause vomiting. In our home, they suggest drinking warm water with pepper and tulsi to clear the throat, which helps a bit. But if the vomiting is frequent, it is always safer to trust a medical doctor and get the right syrup prescribed.

Hey, don't worry, this is actually very common. When you have a bad cold or allergy, mucus drains into your stomach and irritates it, which makes you throw up. Try to sleep with your head slightly elevated and sip warm water. If you feel too weak or the vomiting doesn't stop, let's get you checked by a doctor, okay?
