Can a kidney infection cause back pain?

Since yesterday, I've had this dull ache in my lower back, and I also felt a bit feverish. My friend said it could be related to kidney problems. Is it true that a kidney infection can cause back pain?

I completely understand how scary this feeling is, and your anxiety about it is totally valid. Honestly, yes, kidney issues very often show up as intense back pain on one or both sides. When I had a bad UTI that spread, my back was throbbing and I panicked so much. Please don't stress too much, just get to a doc for a simple urine test to ease your mind.

Yes, our bodies have a way of telling us when something inside needs attention and healing. A kidney infection very commonly reflects as a deep pain in the lower or mid back. Please take deep breaths, keep a positive mindset, and definitely visit a doctor soon to get the right care. God bless you with quick healing.

It absolutely can. The kidneys sit right against your back muscles under the ribs, so when they get inflamed, the back pain can be quite sharp or a constant heavy ache. Usually, it also comes with fever, chills, or burning when you pee. Don't delay starting antibiotics if a doctor confirms it, okay? Drink plenty of water in the meantime.

Oh absolutely, my roommate had this last semester and she thought she just pulled a muscle in gym class. But the pain kept getting worse and then she got a crazy fever. Turned out it was a kidney infection. Seriously, don't ignore it if the back pain is accompanied by shivering or weird pee breaks, just go see a doctor.

Yes, it actually does. I log my water intake and symptoms on my fitness app, and when my cousin had a kidney infection, his main logged symptom was persistent lower-back pain along with a spike in his resting heart rate and body temperature. If your smart watch is showing a fever or your resting HR is unusually high, definitely consult a doctor.
