Can a heart murmur cause a heart attack?

My son was recently told he has a heart murmur during a routine check-up. We're a bit worried, actually. Can this heart murmur problem somehow lead to a heart attack later in life?

A heart murmur itself doesn't directly cause a heart attack because it's usually just an extra sound made by blood flowing through the valves. However, it can sometimes be a sign of a valve issue that needs attention. It's best to get an echocardiogram done just to be completely sure everything is fine.

No, a murmur itself doesn't cause a heart attack, but it points to valve problems. Please consult a cardiologist to get a proper evaluation.

Let's be clear: a heart murmur is a valve sound, while a heart attack is an artery blockage issue. They are different things, but a murmur can indicate underlying structural issues. Go see a cardiologist and get an echo test instead of stressing over it.

While a murmur doesn't directly cause a heart attack, it shouldn't be taken lightly as it can sometimes lead to serious valve complications if ignored. I had a minor issue turn quite complex because I delayed treatment. Please get it properly evaluated by a specialist.

No, they are different issues. The best and most practical thing to do is book a consultation with a local cardiologist and get an ECG and Echo test done. This will give you a clear picture without wasting money on unnecessary panic.

Technically, a heart murmur is just the sound of turbulent blood flow, usually related to heart valves, whereas a heart attack is caused by coronary artery disease. My doctor explained that while they are separate, certain valve diseases causing a murmur can strain the heart over time. It's always best to have a doctor monitor it regularly.
