Can a heart attack make you throw up?

My friend was telling me about someone who had a heart attack and also threw up a lot. I always thought it was just chest pain and breathlessness. Can a heart attack actually cause you to vomit?

Yes, it absolutely can. When I had my heart attack, I started sweating heavily and felt extremely nauseous, and actually threw up before the chest pain got really intense. If you or someone else has sudden unexplained vomiting along with chest heaviness, don't treat it as a normal stomach upset, go to the hospital right away.

Yes, nausea and vomiting are known symptoms of a heart attack, especially in women. Since our schedules are so busy, we often mistake it for a bad lunch or acidity. If you experience vomiting paired with sweating or breathlessness, please don't wait for it to pass, get to an emergency room immediately.

I didn't know this was possible and it sounds really scary. Does the vomiting usually happen before the chest pain starts, or does it happen at the same time? If anyone knows more about this, please share.

Yes, nausea and vomiting can occur during a heart attack due to the activation of the vagus nerve. My doctor explained that this is a classic atypical symptom, more common in women and diabetics. If you observe this alongside sweating or dizziness, it requires immediate medical attention.

Yes beta, sudden vomiting can happen during a heart attack. Usually, we give ginger tea or pudina for normal nausea, but if the throwing up is accompanied by cold sweat and chest pressure, no home remedy should be used. Take the person to a doctor immediately.

Yes, it can. While my son is much younger and we deal with different issues, I know from managing family health that sudden vomiting with chest discomfort is a major red flag. Please stay calm, keep the person comfortable, and take them to the nearest hospital emergency right away.
