Can a heart attack cause diarrhea and vomiting?

Recently, an older family friend had what turned out to be a heart attack, and before that, he had severe stomach issues with both diarrhea and vomiting. I always thought heart attacks were just chest pain. Can a heart attack truly present with symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting?

Yes, gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting can occur during a heart attack, especially an inferior wall myocardial infarction. The vagus nerve gets stimulated, which affects the stomach. If you have any family history of heart disease, don't just log this as food poisoning on your health app—consult a doctor immediately.

I can only tell you what happened with my uncle. He started vomiting and had loose motions, and we thought it was just food poisoning from dinner. But when he complained of sweating and a dull ache in his chest, we rushed him to the clinic, and it turned out to be a heart attack. Please seek professional medical help immediately if you suspect anything.

At my age, if my stomach gets upset, I usually blame the spicy street food I shouldn't have eaten. But jokes apart, doctors say a heart attack can masquerade as a severe stomach bug with vomiting and diarrhea. If you are sweating or feeling breathless, drop the home remedies and head to the nearest doctor clinic immediately.

Well, your heart and your stomach are like neighbors who love to gossip; when the heart is in deep trouble, the stomach starts panicking and throws everything out! In all seriousness, vomiting and diarrhea can definitely happen during a heart attack. If you feel any chest heaviness, don't wait for your stomach to calm down, go see a doctor.

Yes, it actually can! It is a lesser-known symptom of a heart attack, especially in women. While it is usually just a simple stomach infection, please don't take any chances if you also feel dizzy, sweaty, or have chest discomfort. Get checked by a doctor right away to be completely safe!
