Can a firm mattress cause back pain?
Since we bought a new, very firm mattress a few months ago, my back has been bothering me quite a bit. I wake up with pain almost every morning now; could the mattress be the reason?

I can only speak from what happened to me, but buying an ultra-firm mattress actually made my lower back pain much worse. I thought hard mattresses were good for the back, but my body just couldn't adjust. I ended up switching to a medium-firm one which worked wonders.
Yes, absolutely, a mattress that is too hard can cause terrible back aches because it doesn't cushion your shoulders and hips properly. We had to change my son's mattress last year for the same reason. Try placing a soft topper on it first before buying a new one.
I recently visited an orthopedic specialist at a major hospital for my back issues, and they told me that an overly firm mattress can strain the spine's natural curve. They recommended a medium-firm mattress instead. I suggest consulting an orthopedic doctor to see what fits your specific back issue.
Haan yaar, bilkul ho sakta hai. Log sochte hain ki hard gadda back ke liye achha hota hai, par actually wo body ko support nahi karta na. If your back feels stiff every morning, then definitely change the mattress or consult an ortho doctor.

A very hard coir mattress often causes back pain because it has no flexibility. Before spending thousands on a new orthopedic mattress, just try putting a folded thick cotton quat (gaddi) over it to see if the cushioning helps. If the pain stays, better to show a doctor.
