Can a fever cause confusion?

My elderly mother had a bad fever last week, and during that time, she was quite disoriented and confused. Once the fever subsided, she became normal again. I'm wondering, can a fever cause confusion, especially in older people?

Yes, a very high fever can definitely make you feel super foggy and confused! It is often called delirium when the temperature spikes. Keep drinking lots of fluids and rest up, it will pass once the fever goes down.

Hey, don't stress too much, but yes, a high fever can really scramble your thoughts and make you feel totally out of it. Just make sure someone is around to help you, keep taking your meds, and sleep as much as possible.

Yes, high body temperature can cause mild confusion or disorientation. Please try to stay cool with a damp cloth and rest, and make sure to have someone nearby to assist you.

I can only share what happened to me when I had severe typhoid; my fever was so high that I couldn't even remember what day of the week it was. Once the doctor got my fever under control, my head cleared up completely. It was quite a scary experience.

I had no idea that a simple fever could cause confusion, that sounds really scary. Does this only happen when the temperature is very high, or can even a mild fever do this? I hope you are taking good care.

I know how absolutely terrifying it feels when you or a loved one starts acting confused during a fever; it makes your heart race with worry. It is a known effect of high body temperature, but validating that fear, it is always best to call a doctor right away for peace of mind.

Yes, high fevers often cause temporary confusion and brain fog. Keeping the room cool and placing a wet cloth on the forehead can help lower the temperature quickly.

Look, if a fever is high enough to cause confusion, you shouldn't sit at home trying to figure it out. It means the body is under a lot of stress. Get a doctor to check the patient immediately and start the proper treatment.

I just recovered from a severe bout of viral fever last week, and honestly, I couldn't even formulate proper sentences when my fever peaked at 103. It was incredibly disorienting, but the confusion totally vanished the moment my temperature came down to normal.

My grandmother used to say that high body heat 'enters the head' and causes this confusion. While we use traditional cold water compresses to cool down, I strongly believe in trusting a qualified doctor immediately if confusion or disorientation begins.

Oh god, confusion during a fever would make me panic and think of the worst-case scenarios like brain infections. While it is often just a normal reaction to high fever, please do get it checked by a doctor quickly so you don't have to keep worrying like I do.

Yes, confusion can happen with high fevers, but it can also be a sign of a more serious underlying infection. When this happened in my family, we immediately consulted the specialists at Max Hospital. I highly recommend asking your doctor clearly to rule out any complications.
