Can a fall cause a stroke in elderly?

My elderly mother had a bad fall a few weeks ago and since then she seems a bit disoriented sometimes. My friend told me falls can be serious for old people. Can a fall cause a stroke in elderly individuals?

Don't look for answers on the internet for something this serious. A fall can cause a head injury, bleeding in the brain (subdural hematoma), or even be a result of a stroke that happened just before the fall. Please take them to a proper hospital and get a CT scan done immediately.

Yes, absolutely. A severe fall can cause a blood clot or brain hemorrhage in elderly individuals, especially if they are on blood thinners. If they show any signs of confusion, weakness, or slurred speech, bypass any home care and go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

It is a scary situation. When my elderly father fell, the doctors immediately checked him for a stroke because sometimes a stroke actually causes the fall in the first place. Please watch out for any drowsiness or loss of balance and consult their doctor right away.

I didn't know a simple slip and fall could lead to a stroke in older people. My grandmother fell yesterday but she seems fine now, just a bit shaken. Should we still take her to a doctor for a scan even if there are no visible injuries?

Oh god, this is my biggest fear with my grandparents. A fall can definitely cause internal bleeding or clots which can look like a stroke later. If they show any sudden weakness, numbness, or trouble speaking, please don't wait even a minute and call an ambulance.

A fall can indeed lead to traumatic brain injuries or exacerbate vascular issues that trigger a stroke, particularly in seniors. It is also common for an silent stroke to cause the loss of balance that leads to the fall. A comprehensive neurological evaluation is absolutely essential in these cases.

Yes, a fall can cause serious head trauma leading to a stroke in older folks. To prevent falls, we must focus on building their leg strength and balance through gentle physical therapy or simple daily walks. But for now, please get them medically evaluated immediately.
