Can a cbc detect liver problems?

My doctor asked me to get a CBC done for a general check-up. We have a family history of liver issues, so I was wondering if this test can actually give some indication about that.

Actually, a CBC mainly looks at your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. While it can show signs of infection or anemia which might indirectly relate to other issues, it doesn't directly measure liver function. For the liver, doctors usually prescribe a specific Liver Function Test (LFT), so it's always best to consult your physician for the right guidance.

I researched this when my father had some health issues. My doctor explained that CBC is just a Complete Blood Count for cells, while liver issues need an LFT (Liver Function Test) which checks enzymes like SGOT and SGPT and bilirubin levels. Sometimes a low platelet count on a CBC can point toward chronic liver issues, but it's never used as a main diagnostic tool for the liver.

Haha, if only CBC was a one-stop shop for everything, life would be so much cheaper! It only checks your blood cells and platelets, bro. For the liver, you need a different guest list called LFT. Don't stress too much, just ask your doc to add the liver test to the list if you're curious!

Honestly, don't waste time guessing with a CBC. If you suspect liver issues, directly ask a doctor for an LFT and ultrasound. It takes the same amount of time at the lab, and you'll get accurate, actionable results instead of trying to read between the lines of a blood cell report.

Beta, a CBC is a very basic test and won't tell you how your liver is doing. You need to get an LFT done, which tracks things like SGPT and bilirubin. If you are feeling fatigued or having digestion issues, just consult a family doctor and they will write the correct test for you. Take care!

Please don't rely on a CBC if you are experiencing symptoms like upper abdominal pain, yellow eyes, or dark urine. These can be serious signs of liver distress, and a CBC won't catch it early. Get a proper LFT and an abdominal scan done by a qualified doctor immediately to be completely safe.
