Can a 1 year old sleep with a blanket?

My baby just turned one, and it's getting colder now. I want to give him a light blanket, but I remember hearing that babies shouldn't sleep with them. Is it safe for a 1-year-old to sleep with a blanket?

Our pediatrician told us that once a baby turns 1 year old, the risk of SIDS drops significantly and they can technically use a light blanket. However, the doctor also advised that a wearable sleep sack is still much safer because kids tend to kick blankets off anyway. If you use one, keep it light and small.

A calm, stress-free routine is so important, which is something I follow strictly to manage my high blood pressure. If you are worried about your 1-year-old using a blanket, just skip it for now and use warm layers of clothing instead. Keeping yourself worry-free is also important.

I am always extremely cautious about health and safety decisions, perhaps because of my own PCOS management journey. At 1 year, a very light blanket is generally okay, but I still feel safer using warm, full-body sleepwear instead of blankets. Do what feels safest for your peace of mind.

My son just turned one and we started using a very light cotton blanket for him. I make sure to tuck it securely around his chest, leaving his head completely free. Just avoid heavy blankets or loose quilts to keep them safe and comfortable.

At 1 year, yes, they can have a light blanket, but honestly, sleep sacks are way less hassle. My kid always kicked the blanket off within five minutes, and I had to keep waking up to cover him again. Save your time and sleep, use a sleep sack.

Yes, they can use a small, light blanket at 1 year. Just don't use those heavy, thick rajais or duvets that can block their breathing. Keep it simple, light, and tucked in properly.
