Can 5 month old sleep on stomach?
My baby is 5 months old now and sometimes she rolls onto her stomach while sleeping. I always put her on her back, but she manages to turn. Is it safe for a 5-month-old to sleep on their stomach?

Keep it simple: always lay them down on their back. If they roll onto their stomach by themselves, they probably have the neck strength to handle it. Just clear out any blankets or soft toys from the crib immediately to avoid any safety risks.
My mother-in-law said it helps with gas and babies sleep better that way, but I preferred to ask our doctor first. The pediatrician advised that as long as the baby rolls onto their stomach on their own, we don't need to constantly flip them back. Just keep the sleeping area very clean and flat.
I am always extremely cautious about baby sleep positions because of past health scares in my family. Please don't rely only on online advice for this. It is much safer to give your pediatrician a quick call and check if your baby's neck control is ready for tummy sleeping.
Honestly, I used to lose sleep over this and stayed up checking if my baby was breathing every time she rolled over. It is so stressful, I completely understand your anxiety. Try to relax a bit; as long as the mattress is firm and clear, they are usually safe once they can roll themselves.
Oh, the little ones grow up so fast! 🌟 If your cutie is rolling over on their own, it is a great milestone. Just make sure the cot is completely free of pillows and heavy blankets, and they will be totally fine. Sleep tight! 👶
I was actually reading up on this exact topic yesterday because my niece started doing this. Apparently, if they can roll both ways—back to tummy and tummy to back—it is fine. But if they only roll one way, it is safer to roll them back onto their spine.

Just like how I never skip my thyroid level checkups and follow my doctor's plan, I think baby health needs the same regular expert tracking. Ask your pediatrician about your baby's physical milestones during your next vaccination visit. They can guide you best based on your baby's growth.
From what I see daily, the rule of thumb is 'back to sleep'. At 5 months, if they roll over themselves, their muscle control is getting there, but don't place them on their stomach intentionally. Keep the mattress firm and don't use any loose sheets.
