Can 12 year olds have a heart attack?

I was watching the news recently and heard about a young child having serious heart issues, which got me very scared. My niece is 12 years old and seems healthy and active. Is it possible for someone that young to actually have a heart attack?

While classical heart attacks from blocked arteries are extremely rare in a 12-year-old, there can be underlying congenital heart conditions or inflammatory issues that cause sudden chest symptoms. It is always safest to get any chest pain evaluated by a doctor rather than ignoring it.

I can only imagine how incredibly terrifying it is to worry about a child having a heart attack. While it is highly uncommon at this age, any sudden chest pain, breathing difficulty, or fainting is a serious medical emergency and should be checked by a doctor immediately.

My younger cousin had sharp chest pain when he was 12, and we panicked thinking the worst. When we rushed him to the clinic, the doctor found it was just severe muscle strain and acidity, but getting him checked gave us total peace of mind.

My 12-year-old complained of chest tightness once and we took him to the pediatrician immediately because we didn't want to take any risks. It turned out to be mild asthma, but please, if a child complains of chest pain or breathlessness, take them to a doctor right away.

It is extremely, extremely rare for a kid that young to have a heart attack! Usually, it's just gas, growing pains, or anxiety, but if they are feeling really unwell, a quick trip to the doctor is always the best way to be sure! 😊
