Are zero sugar drinks good for diabetics?

My husband is diabetic and loves having cold drinks, so I've started buying zero-sugar options for him. Are these really a good alternative for diabetics, or should we still be careful with them? I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for his health.

My father is diabetic, and he used to drink zero sugar sodas thinking they were completely safe. However, we noticed his cravings for sweet foods actually increased on days he had them, so now he prefers plain buttermilk or lemon water instead.

I totally get it, sometimes you just really miss having a sweet, fizzy drink and water gets so boring. While zero sugar drinks won't spike your blood glucose immediately, those artificial sweeteners can still affect your gut health and insulin sensitivity over time, so please try to keep them as an occasional treat.

Hey, don't stress too much about having one occasionally when you are out with friends. They are definitely better for your sugar levels than regular sodas, but just don't make them a daily habit because those chemicals aren't great for the stomach either.

I always get so nervous when I see 'zero sugar' on labels because I worry it's a marketing trick. Has anyone else noticed their blood sugar spiking slightly even after drinking these diet sodas, or is it just my anxiety playing tricks on me?

According to my continuous glucose monitor, zero-sugar drinks don't cause any immediate glycemic spike. Still, from a health tracker perspective, they don't add any nutritional value either, so infusing water with fresh cucumber or mint is a much healthier daily alternative.

Agreed, they don't spike blood sugar like regular sodas do. However, drinking them in moderation is best as they still contain preservatives and artificial additives.
