Are you born with eczema?

My son has had eczema since he was a baby, and it flares up quite often, especially in certain weather. My mother-in-law says it's something he must have been born with, but I'm curious if that's generally how eczema works, or if it can be acquired later.

No, you aren't born with the rash, but you can have the genetic tendency. I ignored my dry skin patches which later turned into a severe secondary bacterial infection. Please see a dermatologist early before it gets complicated.

You are not born with active eczema, but it often appears in infants around 2 to 6 months of age. It's closely linked to genetics and allergies. Get a proper diagnosis from a pediatric dermatologist to manage it effectively.

It usually develops after birth, often triggered by certain foods or environmental allergens. I find that keeping a clean, plant-based diet and avoiding dairy sometimes helps reduce skin inflammation, but check with your doctor first.

My daughter developed severe dry eczema patches when she was 4 months old. She wasn't born with it, but she has sensitive skin. Using soap-free body washes and moisturizing her skin immediately after bath has kept it under control.

It can appear suddenly at any age, even if you never had it as a baby. Since skin rashes can be due to many different reasons, please get it checked by a qualified skin doctor for a safe and correct treatment plan.

Don't worry, many children get these dry skin patches and they actually outgrow them as they become older. Just keep the skin moist with pure coconut oil, and don't stress too much about it.
