Are you awake during sleep paralysis?

My friend told me about her experience with sleep paralysis, where she felt stuck but couldn't move. She said it felt like she was awake and aware during it, but I'm confused if you are truly conscious or dreaming.

I deal with PCOS which sometimes messes with my sleep quality. During sleep paralysis, your mind is actually awake but your body is still in sleep mode, which is why you can't move. It is very scary but usually harmless.

I experienced this last night and I actually thought I was dying because I couldn't breathe or scream. Does anyone else get a heavy feeling on their chest during this? I am so scared to sleep tonight.

Don't believe people who tell you it's ghosts or supernatural stuff. It is a well-known neurological state where your brain wakes up before your muscles do. If it happens very often, consult a proper sleep specialist instead of searching online.

It is incredibly terrifying when it happens, but please remember you are completely safe. Your mind is conscious, and the feeling passes in just a minute or two. Just close your eyes and focus on breathing slowly when it happens.

I used to get this when my blood pressure was high and my sleep schedule was completely messed up. Your mind is conscious but the body is locked. Fixing my sleep routine and checking my BP regularly helped stop these episodes.

Yes! Your brain is wide awake but your muscles are still sleeping, which feels super weird! Just try to wiggle your toes slowly to break out of it. It works! 👣
